Opening July 26 Ray Veary Play
tells story of local fisherman’s widow
NEW BEDFORD, MA ---Ray Veary’s play, The Water Widow, ushers in Your Theatre, Inc.’s highly anticipated 61st Season on July 26 for a limited four performance run. Directed by Susan Fournier of Dartmouth, the play runs Thursday through Saturday July 26-28, with a matinee Sunday, July 29. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. for all shows except the 3:00 p.m. Sunday matinee.
The play, a type of monument and a tribute to all the brave wives of the fishermen who risk their lives at sea, tells the tale of a local Portuguese Woman, born in 1911, who falls in love, marries a local fisherman and eventually suffers his loss at sea. The play has been crafted in the style of a Japanese Noh Drama making use of such devices as masks, basic music, dance, stylized movement and costumes in telling the story.

The YTI cast consist of Lucy Bly (Old Woman/Young Woman), Elizabeth Rapoza (Narrator), Marie Averie (The Stranger) all of New Bedford. The choral dancers are Margo Wilson Beauregard of Fairhaven, Rosemary Ann Correia of Taunton, Rachel Fouts and Andrea Cantin of New Bedford and Paula Lauzon of Dartmouth who also choreographed the choral interludes. The musicians are Elizabeth Rapoza of New Bedford (flute), Ed Rooney of Westport and Johnathan Gillespie of New Bedford (percussions).
